Betty Scoggins: A Woman of Love, Faith and Adventure

Betty Scoggins grew up on the countryside of the Cheaha Mountains in Talledega County, Alabama with her parents, five siblings, and four other children her mother took in. She loved being a part of a big family! Betty fell in love at first sight at the age of 17. She met a man named Robert, who sent her a letter a few days later saying, “I don’t know about you, but God told me I’m going to marry you!” And they did just a few months later and were married for 49 years and 11 months.

Mr. and Ms. Scoggins moved to Prattville and together they built a house. Coming from a large family, Ms. Scoggins always wanted to have children, but they were unable to have their own. They adopted their beautiful daughter, Amy, and Ms. Scoggins says, “God could not have sent a more perfect baby for me and Bob”.

Mr. Scoggins was in the Air Force, and Ms. Scoggins enjoyed going all over the United States with him, stopping at every thrift shop and yard sale they saw. It was Bob’s desire to make sure Betty saw as much of America as possible. This led to her having several jobs – her favorites being a dental assistant and working for the school system.

Ms. Scoggins has a strong relationship with God and has always trusted Him, even in the most trying of times, including battling B-Cell Lymphoma. For the past four years that Ms. Scoggins has been part of the family at The Harbor, she has welcomed and guided so many new residents, as well as staff. She is always willing to talk and offer you a comfortable chair in her room to sit. She loves spreading God’s love and praying for others.
