Celebrating a Century: Angie Lee Rucker

On January 27, 2025, our beloved residents, Angie Lee Rucker, will reach her milestone birthday of 100 years young!

Born and raised in Newton, Mississippi, Angie was the second child and the first of her parents’ eight daughters! Longing for adventure, Angie moved to Chicago at the age of 19, and she secured a job at R.R. Donnelly, a printing company that handled catalog production for companies like Sears and Montgomery Ward. She loved working there.

While living in Chicago, Angie met and married Joe W. Baker and had three children: Rhonda, Gregory and Spencer. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan together, but eventually the couple parted ways. Angie took up work as a housekeeper while she attended school and earned a degree in cosmetology. She eventually earned her real estate license, which she enjoyed doing for many years thereafter. A woman of many talents, Angie also knew how to sew and she sewed professionally, making curtains and clothing.

Angie married Floyd Rucker, and they moved to California. The pair lived in several areas of California as well as in Las Vegas, Georgia and Ohio until they eventually returned to Michigan. When she began to feel her age, she moved to Douglasville, to be close to her son, Gregory.

Angie is a fun-loving, wise, energetic, talented, hard-working woman who loves her family, dancing and gathering for parties and reunions. Her children have given her a combined total of 31 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also is blessed to have numerous nieces, nephews and extended family, both related and “adopted” into the family.

Angie is most proud of the legacy she has created through her children and family, but she is also proud of the accomplishments she achieved through her strong work ethic, desire to achieve and determination to never give up.

The Harbor at Douglasville love having Angie with them and they consider it a privilege to know her. They wish Ms. Angie a Happy 100th Birthday!
