Barbara Poston, a native of South Carolina, grew up in the small town of Johnsonville. At the age of 21, she married and had a daughter named Beverly. Tragically, shortly after the birth of her daughter, her husband passed away in the Army in Germany. She never remarried and later moved to Florence where she pursued a career in clerical work, briefly working at the USPS. Barbara suffered a brain aneurysm at the age of 49, but she has made the most of her life despite her disability. Throughout her life, Barbara’s primary focus was on her family, and she cherished her role as a mother.
Barbara has one brother whom she affectionately calls “Moose” and one sister whom she affectionately refers to as “Pole Cat.” As the middle child, she holds a special place in her family. Barbara has a deep passion for music, particularly the songs “Amazing Grace” and “One in a Million,” and she considers the legendary artist Al Green to be her favorite. Barbara also enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it’s relaxing on the beach, sitting in a park, or riding her scooter. Additionally, she has a fondness for Walmart, puppies, church and turtles, especially candy-like turtles.
While Barbara loves socializing, she often struggles to speak loudly or clearly. One distinctive feature of her wardrobe is her year-round preference for shorts, which she pairs with colorful socks. Despite her occasional communication challenges, Barbara remains a loyal and close friend to those she cares about.
Barbara moved to Legacy Village in December 2024 and enjoys the plethora of activities. Some of her favorites are Happy Hour, live entertainment, Monday milkshakes and listening to music.
