Elaine Taylor was born and raised on a ranch in Colorado and is very proud of it! She fondly remembers her father playing the fiddle while the rest of the family sang and danced along. Elaine loved hunting for arrowheads and rocks. To this day, she even wears a ring made from a stone she found on the ranch!
There is one particular childhood memory that she cherishes most, which is her relationship with a very special horse called Dixie. Dixie was not able to have babies and she fell into a melancholia. While the horse was lying down, Elaine would crawl into her “arms” and Dixie would hold her like she was her baby. Her father did not particularly care for this, but Elaine’s mother saw no harm in it. Elaine claims that they both provided each other with a lot of comfort, and she never had a bond so strong with a horse again.
Elaine enjoyed working for her uncle’s business, handling the paperwork. Her mother made beautiful, hand-crocheted blankets that she still keeps in her apartment. She takes pride in those blankets.
Elaine often talks about her hands being in rough shape now due to having worked on a ranch, but the staff at The Harbor all remind her that her hands are testament to a beautiful story of a woman who worked hard and loved her family and animals. Elaine’s favorite Bible verse is Ephesians 4:2, “Be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another with love.”
She adores spending time with her granddaughter, Krystal, and her husband, Sean. They have two “pups”, Walter and Winnie, and Elaine claims them as her grand dogs.
